Falcons nearly pull off victory over No. 19 UW-Whitewater

HONOLULU, Hawaii -- Concordia Wisconsin nearly pulled off an upset over No. 19 UW-Whitewater, but can still walk with their heads held high after a 53-52 loss on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a missed field goal, senior Kaitlyn Foster (Janesville, Wis.) grabbed an offensive rebound and drove to the bucket for a layup to put the Falcons ahead 52-51 with less than seven seconds to play. The Warhawks quickly inbounded the ball and rushed up the court and responded with a layup to go in front 53-52 with very little time remaining.
- After a timeout to advance the ball into the frontcourt. Concordia Wisconsin had one last attempt for an upset and with enough time for a catch and shoot play, was only able to get off a 28-foot 3-pointer that fell short.
- The Falcons trailed the entire game and by as many as 14 points (second quarter) and got back into the game with an 8-0 scoring run over a three minute and 24-second span that covered the end of the third and some of the fourth. There were two scoring ties and two lead changes down the stretch.
- Senior Clara Chambers (Mineral Point, Wis.) led all players with 17 points (three 3-pointers), to go along with seven rebounds and three steals. Foster ended with 11 points, four rebounds and two steals. Junior Emily Hafemann (Hales Corner, Wis.) scored seven and dished out three assists.
- UW-Whitewater was led by Becky Raeder's 14 points.
- The Falcons won the rebounding battle (37-30), but committed 22 turnovers. The Warhawks scored 36 of their points in the paint.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- Concordia Wisconsin returns to action after the Christmas break with a January 4 contest at Illinois Tech at 4:15 pm in NACC play.
