Falcon women earn solo title as Luethe scores her 1000th point

MEQUON, Wis.-  Things have been happening in positive bunches for the Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team this season.  Just two weeks ago Tiffany Hendrickson (Sr./ Ingleside, Ill.) scored her 1000th career point on the same night that the CUW women won for the 500th time in university history.

Tonight the Falcons (17-6/ 14-2 NAC) secured the outright NAC North title via a 67-54 victory on the same night that Katie Luethe (Jr./ Oshkosh, Wis.) scored her 1000th point as a Falcon.

An appreciative crowd applauded both looming accomplishments as Stacey Brunner-Jones' club built a 36-22 halftime lead by dominating the boards and working the ball inside.

From that point on CUW matched baskets with the Sabres, but the visitors never got within striking distance.

Luethe, last week's NAC Player of the Week, had 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for her evening's work.  Point guard Brittany Zietlow (Sr./ Oak Creek, Wis.) dished out eight assists.

Amelia Mirsberger scored 12 points for Marian, which slipped to 3-12 in league play.

Both teams shot 45% from the floor, but Concordia had a huge 39-17 rebound advantage as the Falcons won for the 11th time in their last 12 games.

On Saturday Northern Division champion CUW will travel to Wisconsin Lutheran to take on the Southern Division regular season champs at 1:00pm.
