Falcon women look sharp in win over Benedictine

MEQUON, Wis.-  Concordia Wisconsin's women's team rode a strong defensive performance and some solid perimeter shooting to an important 69-53 win over Benedictine in the Buuck Fieldhouse this afternoon.

CUW attacked BenU's zone defense effectively both inside and out, connecting on six of 12 from beyond the arc during the win while shooting 43% overall.  The game was tied 14-14 with just over five minutes left in the half when Stacey Brunner-Jones' squad went on their first big run, scoring 10 straight and eventually building their halftime cushion to 30-19.

The visitng Eagles made several runs in the second half, twice cutting the deficit to six points, but both times the Falcons answered from long range.  "We handled their runs and did not back down at crunch time," explained Brunner-Jones.

Once again Concordia scoring was wonderfully balanced as Camille Parsons (Jr./ Urbana, Ill.), Allison Paluchniak (Fr./ Oostburg, Wis.), and Brittany Zietlow (Sr./ Oak Creek, Wis.) scored 13, 12, and 11 points respectively.  Four other Falcons added between six and eight points.

Kam Haifleigh led the Eagles, 3-2 in conference play, with 11 points. BenU also shot 43% for the game but connected on only 11 of 19 free throws and turned the ball over 17 times compared to CUW's 13 errors.

Katie Luethe (Jr./ Oshkosh, Wis.) was outstanding on the boards with 11 rebounds as the Falcons actually outboarded their taller opponents 36-32.

The first place Falcons are now 6-2 in conference play and 8-5 overall. Edgewood is second at 5-2.  Five teams are within one game of first place in the NAC North.
