Carroll women shut down CUW basketball 56-46

MEQUON, Wis.-  After a 20-20  halftime stalemate dominated by defense, Carroll (1-1) was the team that was able to maintain a suffocating half court umbrella while successfully attacking Concordia Wisconsin's interior to record a 56-46 win in the Buuck Fiedhouse Monday evening.

The host Falcons (1-1) were ice cold from the perimeter all night long, going 1-17 from long range so the visitors were able to concentrate on stopping junior Katie Luethe (Oshkosh, Wis.) who had totalled 16 of CUW's 20 points in the first twenty minutes of action.

Luethe ended up with 20 points on 10-23 shooting, mostly from inside, and added a dozen rebounds.

No other Falcon was able to find a scoring touch as the remainder of the team was a collective 10 of 40 (25%) from the field.

Emily DeNoyer led the Pioneers with 18 points and teammates Malory Christensen, Kelly Menden, and Breann Maryanski added a dozen each.  Those four supplied all of the offense that Carroll needed.

Carroll outrebounded CUW by a slim 41-39 margin but the visitors connected on 20 of 29 free throws while the frigid Falcons were just 5 of 12 from the charity stripe.

Stacey Brunner-Jones' team heads into NAC play Saturday night when they travel to Alverno for a 7:00pm matchup.
