Softball splits Wednesday action in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Falcons moved to 4-5 on the season with a split on Wednesday afternoon at the PFX Spring Games. The Blue and White bounced Buffalo State in the first game, 10-2. CUW then came up short against Bethel, 7-6.

Buffalo State took an early lead in the morning with a run in the first and fourth inning.

The Falcons' bats exploded in the fifth inning with seven runs.

Junior Molly O'Connell (New London, Wis.) doubled to center field to score junior Emma Schimberg (Random Lake, Wis.).

Senior Maddie Zazas (Mundelein, Ill.) singled through the right side of the infield to score O'Connell and senior Becky Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis.).

Junior Samantha Schloegl (Genoa City, Wis.) and Maddie Zazas scored on a fielder's choice by senior Sara Rosenow (Kimberly, Wis.).

Emma Schimberg then singled to right field to score sophomore Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) and Rosenow.

The Falcons added three more runs in the sixth inning.

Maddie Zazas singled up the middle to score Molly O'Connell.

Jenna Pozezinski had a sacrifice fly to score Samantha Schloegl.

Sara Rosenow closed the scoring on a ground out that scored Maddie Zazas.

Freshman Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) recorded five strikeouts in the victory.

Bethel opened the second game with three runs in the first inning.

The Falcons fought back with four runs in the second inning.

Freshman Krystal Cortes (Aurora, Ill.) had a single to right field that scored Sara Rosenow.

Becky Bonnin then doubled to right field to send in Krystal Cortes and freshman Taylor Kuske (Kaukauna, Wis.).

Maddie Zazas singled through the left side of the infield to score Bonnin.

In the third inning, Krystal Cortes grounded out to score Sara Rosenow.

Bethel took the lead with four runs in the sixth inning.

Becky Bonnin cut into the deficit with a double into right-center field to score Emma Schimberg.

Freshman Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) struck out six Royals in the start.

The Falcons close spring break action on Thursday morning against Grinnell and Ramapo.
