
No. 5 Carthage Clips Men's Volleyball
KENOSHA, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's volleyball program continued a stretch of taking on the best of the best of NCAA Division III on Tuesday night in the fifth-ranked match of the year for the Falcons. The fifth-ranked Firebirds of Carthage improved to 8-2 on the year with the 25-18, 25-15, 25-13 victory.
A kill from senior Lucas Beres (Germantown, Wis.) tied the set at one to give the Falcons their first point of the night. The Falcons trimmed the Carthage lead to two points on eight different occasions, but could not get any closer as the first set progressed and the Firebird took the first set, 25-18. The Blue and White posted a 0.400 hitting percentage in the first set.
The Blue and White took an early 3-1 lead in the second set with kills from freshman Reid Scott (Chandler, Ariz.) and junior Chase Ammons (Elm Grove, Wis.). Carthage used a 7-0 run to earn some separation and claimed the second set at 25-15.
The Falcons put up a fight in the third set and trimmed the Carthage lead to four with a kill from freshman Owen Kolozsy (Carol Stream, Ill.), but the Firebirds clinched the match with a victory at 25-13.
Reid Scott led the flock with eight kills on Tuesday night. Chase Ammons hit 0.833 in the match and finished with five kills.
Freshman Hayden Hurley (Gilbert, Ariz.) fed the Concordia offense with 20 assists.
Junior Tate Miller (Anthem, Ariz.) and Owen Kolozsy both finished with five digs.
The Falcons continue their tour of the top-ranked teams in the nation on Thursday against the reigning national champion, eighth-ranked Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran.
