Johnson breaks 24-year old pole vault mark at Wartburg meet

WAVERLY, Iowa – Grant Johnson broke a 24-year old outdoor pole vault school record to help lead the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Track & Field Team at the Wartburg Outdoor Select over the weekend. Johnson tied for first in the event, while Gavin Falotico and the 4X100-meter relay team added wins for the Falcons as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Johnson (Oconomowoc, Wis.) broke the 24-year old record of Chris Wedell, who cleared 4.14 meters during the 1993 season. Johnson, who also has the indoor mark, tied for first in the event with his 4.25 meters on Saturday.

- Falotico (Palatine, Ill.) landed a win in the discus throw for CUW. The sophomore posted a toss of 56.96 meters, which ranks 16th nationally.

- CUW also received a win in the 4X100-meter relay team from the foursome of Silas Hasselbrook, Nick Margrett (Brookfield, Wis.), Damon Nick, and Jake Roy. The four completed the race in a time of 43.16.

- Nick (Slinger, Wis.) would go on to add a pair of second-place finishes in hurdle events. He ran the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.53 while finishing the 400-hurdles in 55.45. Hasselbrook (Missoula, Mont.) placed fifth in the 110 hurdles, crossing the finish line in 15.77.

- Also on the track, CUW received a third-place finish in the 400 from Samual Spranger (Fond du Lac, Wis.). He completed the race in 49.54. Roy (Appleton, Wis.) placed fourth in the 100 (11.21), while Michael Taylor (Denmark, Wis.) was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:27.91).

- In field events, CUW had three more top-five finishes. Brandon Wooden (Milwaukee, Wis.) was third in the triple jump, landing at 12.67 meters. Jordan Kelly (Mequon, Wis.) added a fourth-place finish in the long jump (6.62 meters), while Joe Krier (Port Washington, Wis.) was fifth in the shot put (13.68 meters).

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will compete next Saturday at the Private College Championships. The meet will be hosted by Ripon and is set for a 10 a.m. start.
