Men's Tennis closes spring trip with win over Frostburg St.

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Tennis team closed out its spring trip in style, picking up a 7-2 win over Frostburg St. Friday morning. The Falcons posted a 3-2 record during their spring trip to move their overall mark to 7-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons started the day by winning two of three in doubles play. Included in that was a convincing 8-1 victory by the No. 1 doubles pairing of freshman Christian Docter (Madison, Wis.) and sophomore Brad Guendel (Greendale, Wis.).

- The CUW No. 3 pair of sophomore Ceejay Schaffner (Winona, Minn.) and freshman Jonah Fowle (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) also gained a win in doubles play, netting an 8-4 decision. Frostburg St. picked up a 9-8 (7-5) win in No. 2 doubles.

- CUW continued its momentum in singles play, winning five of six matches. Schaffner was the most dominant in singles play, rolling to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 5 position. Junior Trevor Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) also had little trouble in his No. 4 singles match, posting a 6-2, 6-0 win, while Guendel cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.

- In No. 2 singles play it was Docter who netted a 6-3, 6-3 win for the Falcons, while senior Robert Spiering (Wauwatosa, Wis.) needed a third set tiebreak to pick up his victory at No. 6 singles. Spiering dropped the opening set 2-6 before rallying 7-5 in the second set. He then posted a 10-6 tiebreak victory to gain the No. 6 singles win.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will return to the Midwest to take on Illinois Wesleyan in a non-conference road match on March 31. The contest against IWU is set for a 4 pm start.
