Men's Tennis downs Adrian for second straight win

GLENDALE, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin won its second straight match downing Adrian College, 5-4, in a non-conference dual at the Paley Tennis Center Friday evening.

After dropping 2-of-3 in doubles play, the Falcons rallied with four wins in six singles matches to push past the Bulldogs. There was plenty of excitement at No. 1 singles as junior Russell Johnson (Monticello, Wis.) needed a tiebreaker to defeat Jordan Verbauwhede of AC, 6-4, 6-7 (8), 1-0 (5).

CUW also gained wins at No. 2, No. 4, and No. 6 singles, all four of those coming in straight sets. Junior Skip Turner (Eau Claire, Wis.) and freshman Antoine Leon each won their matches 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Freshman Terry Jones (Maywood, Ill.) also won his singles competition at the No. 6 slot, 6-2, 7-5.

The singles success for the Falcons came after doubles play, where only the No. 1 duo of Turner and senior Taylor Shaffer (Stoughton, Wis.) picked up a victory, 8-4 over the Bulldogs top team.

CUW (2-4) is off until Mar. 25 when they begin their spring trip with five matches in five days. The Falcons will begin competition in Hilton Head, S.C. against Carroll University.
