Men’s Soccer recaps 2018 campaign

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's soccer team advanced to the NACC Tournament Semifinals and finished the season with an 11-7-1 record.

"One of the biggest takeaways from the season is that we accomplished our goal of becoming an outstanding defensive team," said head coach Dr. Tom Saleska. "Leading the conference in fewest goals allowed.  However, we really need more repetition in the attacking third of the field so that we can score more goals against quality competition."

The Falcons won their first NACC Tournament match for the first time since 2013 with a victory over Wisconsin Lutheran in the NACC Tournament Quarterfinals.

CUW landed five All-NACC Selections in 2018, with two being named to the All-NACC First Team.

The senior duo of Gavin Falotico (Palatine, Ill.) and Dagoberto Diaz (Woodburn, Ore.) were named to the first team. Senior Zach Gyuricza (Palatine, Ill.) was named to the All-NACC Second Team, with junior Nate Yeager (Rio Rancho, N.M.) and junior Justin Totsky (Colgate, Wis.) earning honorable mention honors.

The Falcons also soared in the classroom, Justin Totsky was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team, selected by CoSIDA. Totsky has a 4.00 grade-point average.

Nate Yeager was a three-time NACC Defensive Player of the Week and helped the Falcons force eight shutouts on the season.

Dagoberto Diaz and sophomore Christian Tyrpak led the Falcons with 21 points. Diaz finished with a team-high seven assists and seven goals. Tyrpak led the Blue and White with nine goals and also tallied three assists.

The Falcons will look to build off a strong 2018 season into 2019.
