Men's Soccer drops double overtime match against Elmhurst

MEQUON, Wis. – It took 106:56 to see a goal scored between Elmhurst College and the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Falcons, that goal was scored by Jordan Fletcher of EC, as the Bluejays escaped with a 1-0 win over CUW at Fitting Field.

Defense was the name of the game as both teams played two halves and one overtime session of scoreless soccer. The two squads were 3:04 away from a scoreless tie until Elmhurst's Alex Safford launched a service pass from midfield and Fletcher headed it in.

Junior goalkeeper Eric Vogel (Itasca, Ill.) made six saves on the afternoon for the Falcons. His counterpart, John Reglin, posted the shutout with two saves, while picking up his fourth win of the season.

Elmhurst outshot the Falcons by a 19-9 count. CUW held an edge in shots in the opening 45 minutes, 5-3, but the visiting Bluejays had a 12-2 advantage in the second half. Elmhurst outshot the Falcons, 2-1, in the first overtime session and 2-1 again in the second overtime.

Sophomore Keegan Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.) and senior Jacob Pope (Muskego, Wis.) each had two shots to pace the Falcons offense. Micheal Delong of Elmhurst led all players with six shots.

CUW will return to the pitch Tuesday when they host Maranatha Baptist Bible College in non-conference play. Action is set to begin at 4 p.m. at Fitting Field and live audio and stats will be available from CUWFalcons.com.
