Sytsma, Pope, Campos are NAC men's soccer first team honorees
WAUKESHA, Wis.- Concordia Wisconsin stars Kyle Sytsma, Diego Campos, and Jacob Pope were all first team Northern Athletics Conference men's soccer honorees as announced today by the league office.
Sytsma (Sr./ Antioch, Ill.) leads CUW in scoring with 10 goals and four assists to date from his midfield position. The Falcon offense usually goes through Campos, who has nine assists to his credit. Pope, a converted defender, has scored eight times while adding a pair of assists.
CUW senior goalie Sam Ische and senior defender Zach Lemler (West Bend, Wis.) earned second team honors while Falcon freshman forward Keegan Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.) was named to the All Freshman squad. Ische has allowed just over one goal per match and sports an .833 save percentage. Van Dusseldorp has tallied five goals and one assist since returning from an early season injury. Lemler switched to defense this season and was one important reason why CUW has allowed just 20 goals in 19 matches.
Dominican's Krzysztof Lagowski was named the NAC Defensive Player of the Year and MSOE's Jordan Werner the Offensive Player of the Year.
Lagowski (Chicago, Ill.) steered the top defense in the league, which has a 0.51 goals against average that includes a 0.18 mark versus NAC opponents. The senior defender and the Stars' GAA is currently ninth in the nation, while the team's 0.65 shutout percentage ranks seventh in NCAA Division III with 11 shutouts on the season.
Werner (Bolingbrook, Ill.) leads the conference and ranks second in the country in total goals with 23, total points with 55, and is 21st in assists with nine. The senior forward helped lead the Raiders to a 14-4-1 overall record, and 8-2-1 conference mark, good for a three-way tie for the second spot in the standings.
Raider teammate Logan Andryk (Hartland, Wis.) was named NAC Freshman of the Year. The rookie midfielder headlined the 14-member All-Freshman team, and earned a spot on the14-member All-NAC First Team. Andryk was second in the league in goals (13) and points (35), and added nine assists.
Dominican's Erick Baumann was named NAC Coach of the Year, as voted on by his peers. Baumann guided the Stars to another undefeated season in league play with an 11-0-0 mark, 14-2-1 overall. It was the Stars' seventh-straight league title in the league's seventh year of existence, all in unbeaten seasons. Currently Dominican ranks No. 8 in the NSCAA Coaches' Poll and No. 12 in the D3soccer.com Poll.
