1-0 win over WLC sets up second place match for CUW men's soccer

MILWAUKEE, Wis.-  Kyle Sytsma's (Jr./ Antioch, Ill.) first half score off a Ryan Carey (Fr./ Appleton, Wis.) assist held up as CUW outlasted a much improved Wisconsin Lutheran side  1-0 last evening at Time warner Stadium.

"We hung on for dear life," explained Coach Tom Saleska.  "They (WLC) are a good team and their overall record (11-7-0) shows that."

Statistics backed Saleska up as the Falcons outshot the Warriors by a mere 12-9 margin with each team putting four shots on goal.

CUW is now 8-2-0 in the NAC, tied with MSOE for second place.  The teams meet Wednesday at Fitting Field in a showdown that will provide the winner with the number two seed in the NAC conference tournament.

Nobody has found a way to stop MSOE's Jordan Werner to date.  The talented senior has scored a league-leading 22 goals and dished out nine assists this season.

If that's not enough, MSOE also has the number two scorer in the conference as Logan Adryk  has found the back of the net 11 times and also has nine assists  to his credit.

The Raiders are an impressive 13-4-0 overall, having outscored the opposition by a 54-15 margin.

Goalie Garret Farin has shut out nine opponents this season.  MSOE's only loss in their last ten matches was a 2-1 defeat at the hands of undefeated Dominican.

The Falcons could actually finish second, third, or fourth depending on the outcome of Wednesday's crucial match.  Aurora (7-2-1) finishes at home against WLC on Wednesday and would jump past the loser of Wednesday's match with a win over the Warriors.

"We just need to win," rationalized Saleska.
