Falcon men's soccer overcomes obstacles to defeat Lakeland

HOWARDS GROVE, Wis.-  Concordia Wisconsin lost Jacob Pope (Jr./ Muskego, Wis.) to a red card just 18 minutes into the match, but Tom Saleska's Falcons were still able to break from a 1-1 halftime tie and defeat Lakeland 3-1 this afternoon.

The Muskies' Farouk Dadzie gave his team a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the match and things looked bleak when Pope was given consecutive yellow cards just 14 minutes later.

CUW showed no quit, however, and Diego Campos (So./ Milwaukee, Wis.) scored off a Keegan Van Dusseldorp (FR./ Burlington, Wis.) assist prior to halftime to tie the match.

Concordia looked like the team with a man advantage for much of the second half, outshooting Lakeland 28-11 and getting goals from senior Kyle Sytsma (Antioch, Ill.) on a penalty kick and Nicholas Hopper (Fr./ Menomonee Falls, Wis.) on a nifty Campos assist to secure the win.

"I was proud of how we handled the adversity," said Saleska.  "Everyone worked hard and my team deserved to win this match."

The Falcons, 4-1-0 in the NAC, host Benedictine at 3:30pm on Saturday.
