Falcon men's soccer is SECURE in goal

MEQUON, Wis.- After suffering a season-ending wrist injury before the Falcons had even begun 2011 play, Concordia Wisconsin goal keeper Sam Ische was forced to sit and watch from the sidelines.  CUW allowed a disturbing eleven goals in six non-conference matches before settling on senior field player Enrique Alvarado to mind the nets in Ische's absence.

"Enrique did a really good job under difficult circumstances, but there's no question that Sam's loss was a huge blow and affected us in the back all year.  It's great to have Sam back healthy."

Ische had been the Falcon goalie all of 2010, finishing with a goals allowed average of just under 1.0 per contest and saving 63 of 84 shots during that season.

"I was so disappointed when I got the news that my wrist was broken.  Watching was really tough," explained the Menomonee Falls native.  "From that point on I just tried to be supportive and be part of the team." 

"This season we already seem to be becoming a TEAM in the best sense of the word.  We are very young in the back but the freshmen and veterans new to defensive positions will learn to trust me just like the veteran guys do.  We want more as a team this year and I plan to do my share."

"Sam is a loud and constructive leader," explained Saleska.  "Our veteran defenders trust him because he sees the play develop in front of him and communicates everything very well besides being an athletic, skillful goalie.  We will be in good hands at that position."
