Men's Lacrosse defeats MSOE in MLC Tournament

MEQUON, Wis. -- Concordia Wisconsin used a strong defensive effort in the second half, along with a pair of man-up goals, to earn a 10-6 victory over MSOE in an MLC Tournament semifinal matchup at Fitting Field on Wednesday.

The Falcons, as the No. 1 seed, will host No. 2 Aurora on Saturday at 12 pm with the MLC Tournament Championship up for grabs and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was tied twice in just over 15 minutes of play and Concordia Wisconsin held a 5-4 advantage over MSOE at the intermission. The second half was a completely different style of play, as the Falcons' defense went into lockdown mode and the offense scored a pair of man-up goals.
- Concordia Wisconsin gave up just a goal in each of the last two quarters, limited MSOE to 14 shots and forced 14 turnovers of which eight were caused in the final 30 minutes of play. To understand how controlling the defense was, they forced two shot clock violation turnovers.
- Meanwhile, senior Jack Donnellan (Grayslake, Ill.) and sophomore Donovan Harper (Yorba Linda, Calif.) took advantage of the visitors' errors, by scoring man-up goals. Donnellan's marker came with 4:37 to play in the third quarter, which capped three unanswered goals in a row. Harper's tally was the first of the fourth quarter and with six minutes and 44 seconds to play in the game.
- Harper led the Falcons with a hat trick, while Donnellan and sophomore Keijo Day (Esko, Minn.) each had two scores.
- Senior Garrett Wohlford (Rochester, Minn.) made 15 saves in a complete game victory, to go along with four ground balls. Junior Ryan Voskuil (Flower Mound, Texas) had three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
- Senior Sebastian Leck (O'Fallon, Ill.) and junior Nathan Oekermann (Beaverton, Ore.) each had a pair of caused turnovers.
- Harrison Davies led the Raiders with a hat trick, while Colin Hall made five saves in goal.

GAME NOTES
- The Falcons extended their winning streak to a program-record nine in a row. Also, their 14 victories, ties a season program record for wins set in 2014.
- Wohlford set the program's single-season record for wins by a goalkeeper with 14.
- Saturday's MLC Tournament Championship marks the fifth-consecutive year that Concordia Wisconsin will compete against Aurora and second time at Fitting Field.
