HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was close throughout, as the two conference foes fought for a key victory. Aurora was able to take a one-goal lead going into the final quarter of play. The Spartans were able to add extra insurance when Tanner Lerdahl put the Spartans up by two scores to create distance between the host bringing the score to the 7-5 final.
- Concordia Wisconsin battled hard as they were able to strike first with 10:40 left in the first quarter. Junior Warren Kaminsky (Winnipeg, Manitoba) was able to fire one past the goalkeeper to give the Falcons some early momentum. Both teams continued to answer each other, but the Spartans were able to string together back-to-back goals and hold on to a 4-3 lead heading into halftime.
- With the clock ticking and time running out, each possession became more and more important. The start of the third quarter got off to a bang when junior Jack Donnellan (Grayslake, Ill.) tied up the game with 14:07 left in the quarter and put the score at 4-4. However, the game took much of the same shape, as it did in the first half when Aurora answered and then tacked on another goal to finally capture the victory 7-5.
- The Falcons saw additional goals from junior Stephen Gregory (Louisville, Ky.), freshman Keijo Day (Esko, Minn.) and junior Mario Baregi (Champlin, Minn.). Junior Garrett Wohlford (Rochester, Minn.)  was in-between the pipes as he stopped 15 shots in 60 minutes. Concordia Wisconsin went 22-of-30 on the clear and 2-of-4 in man-up opportunities along with 11 caused turnovers. Senior Paul Fisher (Champlin, Minn.) was responsible for five of those caused turnovers, as he also picked up a game-high six ground balls.
