Third quarter the difference in Men’s Lacrosse victory

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin put together a crucial nine-minute stretch of noteworthy play during the third quarter on Tuesday, which included a trio of goals and outstanding defensive play that eventually resulted in an 11-7 victory over Carthage at Fitting Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With just a one-goal advantage entering the second half, Concordia Wisconsin played its best during the final nine minutes of the third quarter. They piled on three goals – including a man-up marker by Jack Donnellan to begin the run – forced six turnovers and cleared 6-of-7 attempts to separate themselves from the Red Men.
- Carthage entered the game with just one loss and, despite winning 17-of-24 faceoffs, couldn't recover or make a run in the fourth quarter because of the Falcons defense and the strong play of junior goalkeeper Garrett Wohlford (Rochester, Minn.).
- Concordia Wisconsin forced 18 turnovers in the game and caused 11 of those while limiting its opponent to just 13 clear attempts. Wohlford (junior, Rochester, Minn.) made numerous difficult saves and had 14 stops in a complete game effort. Senior Paul Fisher (Champlin, Minn.) and sophomore Ethan Danz (Appleton, Wis.) accounted for seven caused turnovers.
- The offense wasn't a one-man show, as junior Stephen Gregory (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Keijo Day (Esko, Minn.), along with freshman Taitum Priewe (Janesville, Wis.) and junior Jack Donnellan (Grayslake, Ill.) accounted for 10 of the 11 goals on the scoreboard. Junior Aidan Connolly (Grayslake, Ill.) also had a goal and assist.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons finished 2-for-2 on man-up opportunities and limited the Red Men to 0-for-2 on their chances.
- Concordia Wisconsin has defeated Carthage four times in nine meetings and three of those wins have come by four goals. They are now 3-1 at home against the Red Men.
- It was a critical win for a variety of reasons, but also impressive considering the Falcons had just one day to prepare after playing on Saturday and resting on Sunday, while the Red Men last played 10 days prior.

THE OPPOSITION
- Andy Szun led the Red Men with three goals, four of his teammates found the back of the net once.
- Andy Meyers won 15-of-22 faceoffs and picked up a game-high 10 ground balls. Zerik Rodriguez made 10 saves in net.
