HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a few strong possessions to start off the game for the Buccaneers, the Falcons were able to take control and dominate on both sides of the field. - The Concordia Wisconsin offense didn't stop there, as they went on to score three more goals in the second period to take a 9-1 lead into the second half. The Falcons were led by freshman Keijo Day (Esko, Minn.) in the first half who recorded three goals to help gain the momentum, by fighting his way inside and firing the ball past the Beloit goalkeeper. Concordia Wisconsin went on to outscore the Buccaneers 7-3 in the second half to bring the result to a 16-4 victory.
- The defense was just as dominant as the offense for CUW, as junior Garrett Wohlford (Rochester, Minn.) was able to stonewall 11 shots and recorded a 78.6 save percentage. Concordia Wisconsin also caused 19 turnovers, as the Buccaneers had a hard time getting into a rhythm. The Falcon defense flew to oncoming attackers on their way to picking up 38 ground balls.
- The attackers for Concordia Wisconsin had a great day as Connolly, Day, junior Stephen Gregory (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Collin Berman (San Marcos, Calif.) all scored two or more goals on the afternoon. Connolly finished with five goals and one assist, as Gregory was not far behind with four goals and two assists. Day finished the afternoon with three goals and Berman chipped in two goals. Senior Paul Fisher (Champlin, Minn.) had a nice day defensively, as he created havoc for the Beloit offense, as he picked up five ground balls and added an assist while creating four turnovers. Sophomore Ben Gramarossa (Smithtown, N.Y.) was fearless in the faceoff circle, giving the Falcons possession multiple times as he picked up 10 ground balls on the day.
