Men's Lacrosse announces captains

MEQUON, Wis. -- Concordia Wisconsin's Men's Lacrosse team has named its captains for the 2018 season, as announced by head coach Michael Fahey. The leaders of the Falcons will be lone senior Paul Fisher, juniors Garrett Wohlford and Jack Donnellan, and sophomores Ethan Danz and Jacob Leitner.

After winning the 2017 Midwest Lacrosse Conference regular season, the Falcons are looking to improve upon their runner-up finish in the 2017 MLC Tournament Championship game, which was the third year a row they reached the title game. Each of the five captains elected will play an integral role in the success of the program, bringing their own unique style of leadership to the forefront.

Defenseman Paul Fisher (Champlin, Minn.) will step up into a leadership role, as this is the first year he will serve as a captain. He is coming off his most productive defensive season to date, which garnered him All-MLC First Team honors in 2017. In addition to scoring a goal on the 2017 campaign, Fisher ended the season with 46 ground balls while causing a single-season record 43 turnovers.

Goalkeeper Garrett Wohlford (junior, Rochester, Minn.) will assist Fisher in bringing leadership to the Falcons after being elected as a captain for this first time. Wohlford had a tremendous 2017 season, as he was selected as an IMLCA All-West Second Team honoree, along with being named the MLC Defensive Player of the Year and an All-MLC First Team goalkeeper. He ranked fourth nationally with 6.63 goals against average and sixth with a 61.2 save percentage. Wohlford set the program's single-season record for wins and started all 18 games, while making 167 saves.

Junior attackman Jack Donnellan (Grayslake, Ill.) looks to be the leader on the offensive side of the ball, as the only offensive captain elected. Donnellan appeared in nine games, making one start. He scored seven goals and assisted on two markers. Donnellan had one man-up goal, picked up four ground balls and had one caused turnover. He looks to improve his leadership role on and off the field.

Sophomore long-stick midfielder Ethan Danz (Appleton, Wis.) contributes to a diverse set of captains, as one of two sophomores to be chosen. Danz was named All-MLC Honorable Mention as a defender. He appeared in all 19 games, making 11 starts, scoring five goals, assisting on a marker, picking up a team-high 69 ground balls and causing 18 turnovers. A true testament to his leadership, in that he has already emerged as a leader for the program after a successful freshman season.

Sophomore defensive midfielder Jacob Leitner (Sykesville, Md.) rounds out the Falcons group of captains, after being elected to lead as a sophomore. In 2017, Leitner appeared in 18 games; scoring three goals, picking up 31 ground balls and causing three turnovers. He had three or more ground balls in five games, including a season-high five at Elmhurst. Leitner, along with Danz, look to strengthen the defensive midfield group to shut down the opposing team's best midfielders.
