Spartans pull away from Falcons in MLC Tournament Championship

MEQUON, Wis. – Aurora scored four goals in each of the first three-quarters to pull away from Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday morning during the MLC Tournament Championship game at Fitting Field.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Aurora led 4-2 after the opening quarter, 8-4 at halftime and 12-4 after three-quarters of action before eventually winning its fifth-straight MWLC Tournament Championship. The Spartans controlled most of the possession throughout the game and their defense was difficult for the Falcons to overcome.
- Concordia Wisconsin was led by seniors James Warner (Ham Lake, Minn.) and Colin Raley (Inverness, Ill.) who each had two goals apiece. Senior Kellen Asmundson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and sophomore Aidan Connolly (Grayslake, Ill.) also scored a goal, while Connolly had two assists.
- Sophomore Garrett Wohlford (Rochester, Minn.) made 14 saves in goal and picked up three ground balls. Freshman Ethan Danz (Appleton, Wis.) picked up four ground balls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Aurora held a 47-23 lead in shots and 34-18 difference in ground balls. Concordia Wisconsin committed one less turnover (14-15) in the matchup.
- It was the third-consecutive season the Falcons and Spartans met in the MLC Tournament Championship game, but this time at Fitting Field.
- Asmundson ends his senior campaign with the program's single-season record for points (72) and assists (39). Junior Paul Fisher (Champlin, Minn.) now holds the single-season record for caused turnovers (43), while Wohlford has the single-season record for wins (13).
- Concordia Wisconsin set program single-season records for save percentage (61.8) and goals against average (6.16).
- Raley ends his four-year career ranked first in game-winning goals (10), fifth in points (141), third in goals (109), fourth in shots on goal (181) and fourth in man-up goals (18). Warner is fourth all-time in assists (53). Senior Benjamin Smith (Round Lake Beach, Ill.) exits with the most caused turnovers (106) all-time and the sixth most ground balls (123).

THE OPPOSITION
- Jason Koziol led scorers with a hat trick; while Trevor McNamara, Joey Lucchesi and Ben Arends each had two goals. McNamara also had four assists.
- Corey Segall controlled the faceoff circle, winning 20-of-24 attempts, and picked up 14 ground balls.
- Tyler Lombardi made seven saves in goal.
