Men's Lacrosse overpowers Monmouth in MLC game

MONMOUTH, Ill. – Concordia Wisconsin scored four goals in the second quarter and ended with fives scores in the last period to walk away with a 12-6 MLC victory at Monmouth on Saturday afternoon inside Zorn Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Monmouth, a first-year program, put up a fight during the game's first quarter and had the scoreboard at 2-2 after 15 minutes of play. It became a different story in the second quarter, as Concordia Wisconsin rattled off four goals in a row to push the momentum in its favor with a 6-2 halftime lead.
- The Scots regrouped with an inspiring mid-game speech and came out of the locker room and scored four goals in the third quarter to get within a goal, 7-6, with 15 minutes to play in the game.
- The Falcons calmed down and used their experience and struck the net five times to run away with a 12-6 road victory. They ended with a decisive 48-13 lead in shots (26-11 on goal), 41-15 difference in ground balls and won 19-of-21 faceoffs.
- It was another balanced offensive output, with six players finding the back of the net. Senior Kellen Asmundson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) recorded his fourth hat trick of the season, while sophomore Warren Kaminsky (Winnipeg, Manitoba) scored three goals of his own.
- Senior James Warner (Ham Lake, Minn.) and sophomore Jack Donnellan (Grayslake, Ill.) each netted a pair of scores. Sophomore Aidan Connolly (Grayslake, Ill.) assisted on a career-high-tying trio of markers.
- Sophomore Jack Melby (Eagan, Minn.) took over the faceoff duties in the matchup and had a career game with 19-of-21 faceoff wins and 15 ground balls. Kaminsky also picked up a career-best six ground balls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Concordia Wisconsin has outscored its last two MLC foes by a combined score of 36-6.
- Melby's 15 ground balls are the second most picked up in a game in program history and his 19 faceoff wins are tied for the seventh most in a game.
- Kaminsky and Donnollan's three and two goal performance were both career highs.

THE OPPOSITION
- Thomas Van Alstine led the Scots with four goals on the offensive end.
- Jason Kunath performed well in in goal with 14 saves.
