Men’s Hockey overwhelms Aurora

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's hockey team picked up a key Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory on Friday evening over Aurora. The Falcons walked away with a 5-3 victory over the Spartans to move into a tie for fourth place in the NCHA South Division. The win propels CUW to 6-11-3 and 4-7-2 in NCHA action. Aurora falls to 9-11-0 and 6-7-0 in the NCHA.

"Tonight was a great team effort," said head coach Jasen Wise. "The boys had the 'green light' all night to play fast and clean. That is what they did, I am very proud of the team effort. Our depth was key for tonight's win."

The Spartans were able to get on the scoreboard four minutes into the game.

The Falcons responded with a goal from senior Adam Fauchoux (Prince Albert, Sask.) in the final two minutes of the first period.

Freshman Peter Kapak (Red Deer, Alta.) put the Falcons ahead in the second period off a pass from senior Stefen Seel (Invermere, B.C.). The goal was the first of his career at CUW.

The Spartans tied the game late in the second period.

Coming into the game, sophomore Nick Guerra (Victoria, B.C.) was eighth in NCAA Division III in power-play goals. Guerra struck again early in the third period on the power play.

After an Aurora goal, sophomore Nick Guiney (Victoria, B.C.) broke the tie 57 seconds later.

Junior Jim Pearson (Ashton, Ont.) lit up the scoreboard for the final time at the 16:06 mark.

The Falcons killed off both penalties on Friday.

Freshman Bo Didur (West Vancouver, B.C.) picked up his sixth victory of the year with 29 saves.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday at Lake Forest.
