Men’s hockey posts strong defense against No. 1-ranked Pointers

MEQUON, Wis. – The No. 1 ranked Pointers of Wisconsin-Stevens Point edged the CUW men's hockey team on Friday night, 2-1. The CUW defense stood tall, but the Pointers move to 11-0-2 on the year as CUW moves to 2-9-1.

The Falcon defense fought off three penalties in the first period and finished the game killing off all five penalties.

UWSP was able to score the first goal in the first period.

Senior Connor Hogg (London, Ont.) evened the game on the power play in the second period. Hogg scored right in front of the net, with junior Josh Adkins (Victoria, B.C.) and freshman Brandon MacKinnon (Etobicoke, Ont.) adding assists.

The Pointers scored the game-winning goal off the stick of Drew McLean with less than two minutes remaining in the second period.

Freshman Bo Didur (West Vancouver, B.C.) posted a valiant effort between the pipes with 52 saves.

UWSP outshot the Falcons on Friday night, 54-20. Senior Taylor Gauld (Whitby, Ont.) led CUW with four shots.

The Falcons have successfully killed off their last 17 penalties.

The Falcons return to NCHA action on Wednesday at Marian.
