Foresters freeze Falcons in weekend finale

MEQUON, Wis. – Lake Forest scored the ninth goal of the evening to spoil Saturday for the CUW men's hockey team. The Foresters nipped CUW, 5-4, to improve to 4-3-3 on the year and to 3-2-1 in the Northern Colligate Hockey Association. The Blue and White move to 2-7-1 in 2018 and to 0-5-1 in the NCHA.

Senior captain Stefen Seel (Invermere, B.C.) started the scoring less than two minutes into the game. Freshman Tyler Chalupsky (Mahtomedi, Minn.) had the assist.

The Foresters closed the first period on a 3-0 run.

Freshman Jacob Palmerio (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) tied up the game with a pair of goals in the second period, including a short-handed goal. The goals were his first at CUW.

After a Lake Forest goal, senior Connor Hogg (London, Ont.) tied the game with a point-blank shot in front of the net, from a pass from Stefen Seel.

Joe Sardina of Lake Forest broke the tie with less than four minutes remaining.

Freshman Bo Didur (West Vancouver, B.C.) finished with 32 saves.

The Falcon penalty kill was firing on all cylinders on Saturday and didn't allow a goal on five LFC power-play opportunities. The short-handed goal from Palmerio was the first of the season for the Falcons.

Lake Forest outshot the Falcons on Saturday, 37-33.

The Falcons won 30 of the 56 faceoffs.

CUW returns to action on Tuesday at Lawrence and returns home on Friday to host No. 1-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
