Jackson records double-double, Men's Basketball defeats Wisconsin Lutheran

MILWAUKEE – Brian Jackson recorded with his first career double-double and Concordia University Wisconsin downed Wisconsin Lutheran College, 61-55, at the Recreation Complex on Saturday. The victory inched the Falcons even closer to capturing their four-consecutive Northern Athletics Conference North Division title.

Jackson (senior, Carol Stream, Ill.) was an efficient 5-of-9 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the win, to go along with three steals. The Falcons held the Warriors to 33.3 percent from the floor and outscored them 24-12 in the painted area.

Senior Mark Pace (Milwaukee, Wis.) added 12 points, 10 of which he scored in the second half, while freshman Keith Kahlfedlt (New Berlin, Wis.) scored a career-high-tying 10 points.

Tim Demuth led all players with 20 points, including five 3-pointers. Nate Bauer and Kyle Stelse each added 14 points for the WLC (9-15, 6-9 NAC). Bauer also assisted on a game-high eight field goals.

Neither team wanted to seize control in the opening half, as there were 11 lead changes and four scoring ties. The Warriors took a 32-29 lead into halftime after Bauer made a pair of free throws to give them a seven-point lead – the highest advantage for either team in the opening 20 minutes.

CUW (16-8, 11-4 NAC) owned the second half, leading for all but three minutes and 27 seconds, holding a single digit lead. WLC did make it interesting after Julion Griffin sank a 3-pointer to tie the game at 52-52 with 4:27 to play in the game.

The Falcons answered with a Steve Zielinski (senior, Brown Deer, Wis.) dunk and a Jackson layup to go ahead by four points. The Warriors responded with a Bauer 3-point to force head coach Shawn Cassidy into calling a timeout.

From then on CUW went on a 5-0 run over the final 2:17 to get back into the win column.

The Falcons conclude the regular season on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. contest at Maranatha Baptist Bible College. Pending the result, along with other NAC games, will determine CUW seed in the NAC Tournament.
