Falcon men down Rockford 77-66
MEQUON, Wis.- Concordia Wisconsin (15-7/ 10-3 NAC) came out of the gates strong and maintained a double figure lead throughout most of a 77-66 win over feisty Rockford Saturday afternoon in the Buuck Fieldhouse.
CUW was on fire in the early minutes, racing to a 20-8 lead before the game was seven minutes old. Seniors Brian Jackson (Carol Stream, Ill.) and Mark Pace (Milwaukee, Wis.) each had a pair of 3-pointers in that time span.
From that point on the game was evenly played with the Falcons up 44-32 at the break and RC creeping within six points on only one occasion, with 12:04 left in the second half.
Pace led CUW with an 18 point effort while Jackson and Malcolm Bowers (So./ Germantown, Wis.) each finished with 11.
Shawn Cassidy's cagers wound up with a 46% shooting resume and connected on 17 of 21 from the line.
Rockford, led by David Dixon's 19 and Tory Minnifield's 14 point performances, shot a respectable 44% but was outrebounded by Concordia 41-30. Bowers (8) and Jackson (7) led Falcon rebounders.
Lakeland (11-3 in conference play) held on to a one half game lead over CUW by defeating NAC South leader Aurora 99-94 in overtime.
CUW plays at third place MSOE on Wednesday at 7:00pm.
