Falcon men "regroup" for a strong win Over Mount St. Vincent

DAYTONA BEACH, FL.-  "We came out very strong, allowed them back into the game with turnovers, and then came together to finish them off," was Coach Shawn Cassidy's succinct review of Concordia Wisconsin's Wednesday night 80-64 win over Mt. St. Vincent at the Daytona Beach Classic.

Senior Mark Pace (Milwaukee, Wis.) led CUW with a 19 point, eight rebound performance.  Steve Zielinski (Sr./ Brown Deer) added 14 points and another eight boards as Concordia controlled the paint.

CUW got the ball inside consistently against the smaller Dolphins, shooting an impressive 52% for the game.  Pace and Zielinski combined to connect on 15 of 25 attempts. The Falcons were a red hot 18-28 over the final twenty minutes.

Mount St. Vincent, by contrast, shot just 31% but connected on 19 of 26 free throws.  James Zuccaro finished with 22 points for the Dolphins but was just six of 17 from the floor.

The Falcons led 35-23 at the break, withstood a rally that cut the MSV deficit in half, and then pulled away.

Cassidy was especially pleased with the play of several reserves.  Mark Scholz (So./ Greenfield, Wis.) came off the CUW bench to score nine points, hitting all three of his field goal attempts and snaring five rebounds.    Keith Kahlfeldt (Fr./ New Berlin, Wis.) contributed a dozen points in just 12 minutes of action.

CUW (4-3) will play Bates College in their tournament finale at 3:00pm today.
