Colonels clip Field Hockey

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW field hockey team opened the Southern Athletic Association schedule on Saturday against the Centre Colonels. The Falcons fell short, 4-1, to move to 2-3 on the year. Centre remained undefeated on the year and moves to 5-0 in 2019.

The Colonels struck first on Saturday with two goals in the first eight minutes.

The Black and Gold added another goal in the second quarter.

The Falcons sparked to life in the fourth quarter, when freshman Alex Klamm (Glen Carbon, Ill.) scored her first collegiate goal from five yards out. Klamm was able to sneak past the sliding keeper.

Sophomore Megan McPike (Mequon, Wis.) passed the ball to an open Klamm on the left side of the cage for a goal.

The Colonels tacked a goal on the scoreboard in the final five seconds to claim the victory at 4-1.

Sophomore Katelyn Fitzgerald (Wood River, Ill.) finished with four saves.

Centre held a 17-4 shots advantage on Saturday.

The Falcons will fly south next weekend to Ohio to take on Wooster.
