Field Hockey falls in opener

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons opened the season with a tight match against the Quakers of Earlham College. Earlham came out on top with a 2-1 victory.

"Today was a valuable learning experience," said head coach Samantha Landis-Schoessow. "There were some things we did well and there are things we need to change. We have the opportunity to go back and play them again tomorrow."

The Quakers were the first on the scoreboard, with a second-quarter goal.

The Falcons responded three minutes later. Senior Kelsey Fulton (Hartland, Wis.) was able to corral a pass from senior Sophia O'Connor (Manchester, Mich.) and find the back of the net.

The Maroon and White scored the winning goal in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Katelyn Fitzgerald (Wood River, Ill.) posted five saves on Saturday.

Both teams recorded 10 shots and seven penalty corners.

CUW will have a chance to even the series on Sunday morning.
