Field Hockey looks to build off a record-breaking season
MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons continued to move forward as a program in the 2018 season. The Blue and White broke many program records this fall and look to keep building momentum heading into the 2019 season.
The Falcons finished the year with a 7-8 record, the seven wins are the most in a single season in program history.
CUW averaged 2.3 goals-per-game in 2018, the highest in program history. Freshman Megan McPike (Mequon, Wis.) led the flock with 17 goals, the most in a single season for a Falcon. Her five game-winning goals in 2018 was also a program record.
Junior Sam Dunn (Sussex, Wis.) led CUW with four assists and was second on the team with six goals. Her two penalty-shot goals in 2018 were a program record.
Junior Kelsey Fulton (Sussex, Wis.) finished the year with three goals, freshman Ellie Basting (Jackson, Wis.), junior Rachel Larson (St. Louis, Mo.) and freshman Gabrielle Poole (Rinde, N.H.) all had two goals in 2018.
CUW landed three All-SAA selections in Megan McPike, Sam Dunn and sophomore Callie Neumann (Dousman, Wis.). McPike and Dunn were named to the All-SAA First Team, with Megan McPike claiming the SAA Newcomer of the Year title.
The Falcons finished in fourth place in the Southern Athletics Association at 2-3. Concordia Wisconsin won its first-ever postseason game in 2018 with a 2-1 victory over host Hendrix in the SAA Quarterfinals. Sam Dunn and junior Brianna Buehler (Hartland, Wis.) were named to the All-SAA Tournament Team.
Karissa Faubel (Menasha, Wis.) was the lone senior on the 2018 squad. Faubel recorded three defensive saves in 2018.
Junior Sophia O'Connor (Manchester, Mich.), Brianna Beuhler, Karissa Faubel, junior Abigail Martin (Saline, Mich.) and Gabrielle Poole helped anchor a defense that held the opponents to one goal or less five different times this season.
Freshman Katelyn Fitzgerald (Wood River, Ill.) posted six victories in the cage for the Falcons and finished the season with 141 saves. Karissa Faubel picked up the victory in a 7-2 victory over Ferrum. The 10.60 saves-per-game is a program record.
The Falcons finished the year with a program high 199 shots on the year. 11 Falcons recorded a shot in 2018, with Megan McPike leading the way at 64 and sophomore Courtney Englund (Germantown, Wis.) recording one against Ferrum.
The Falcons will look to build off a strong 2018 campaign in 2019.
