Field Hockey bounces Hendrix in SAA Quarterfinals

CONWAY, Ark. – Friday was a milestone day for the Concordia Wisconsin field hockey program. The Falcons recorded their first postseason victory in program history with a 2-1 victory over Hendrix in the South Athletic Association Tournament Quarterfinals. The Blue and White also improve to 7-7 on the season, breaking the program record for victories in a single season.

It was a great game and a great effort from both teams," said head coach Samantha Landis-Schoessow. "I am so pleased with how well our team came together and took back the lead after Hendrix had scored. We look forward to our first appearance in the semifinals tomorrow."

Hendrix struck first on its home field in the 10th minute off a shot from Talitha Joustra.

Six minutes later, junior Sam Dunn (Sussex, Wis.) scored her sixth goal of the season.

Freshman Megan McPike (Mequon, Wis.) scored her 17th goal of the season in the 41st minute.

Freshman Katelyn Fitzgerald (Wood River, Ill.) kept the Warriors off the scoreboard the rest of the way with six saves on the day.

Concordia Wisconsin held a 9-7 shots on goal advantage.

Megan McPike led the Falcons with four shots.

The Falcons forced eight penalty corners on the afternoon.

CUW leads the all-time series against Hendrix, 3-1.

Friday marked the fifth time this season that CUW has held an opponent to one goal or less.
