Olig, Barney lead Baseball to shutout win over Northland

MEQUON, Wis. – Matthew Olig fired eight shutout innings and Justin Barney drove in five runs to lead the Concordia University Wisconsin Baseball team to an 8-0 win over Northland in the 2018 home opener Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons scored all eight runs over their first four at-bats, including plating four in the fourth inning. Olig (Plymouth, Wis.) would need just one run of support as he had the LumberJacks guessing all afternoon. He allowed just three hits and struck out three while throwing 65-of-89 pitches for strikes.

- Barney (Kenosha, Wis.) got the Falcons on the board with a two-run triple in the first inning, scoring Kyle Hilliard (Oak Forest, Ill.) and Dan Ranieri (Loves Park, Ill.). Hilliard and Barney each tallied three hits to pace the offense, both players recording a triple.

- Barney would drive in another run in the third and added a two-run single in the fourth, driving in a team-best five runs in the win. Kyle Washburn (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.) added two hits, including a double, while Drew Barth (Pewaukee, Wis.) doubled as well for the Falcons.

- Alex Prickett (Cedarburg, Wis.) came on for the final inning of work on the mound for CUW. He needed just 12 pitches to secure the win for the Falcons.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The game was the 2018 home opener for the Falcons after playing their first 13 games of the season in either California or Arizona. The Falcons are now 3-2 in home openers under Eddy Morgan.
