Baseball splits doubleheader with Lakeland
Box Score: LC 10, CUW 2
Box Score: CUW 2, LC 0
MEQUON, Wis. - Austin Baglow struck out eight batters in
eight innings to help Concordia University Wisconsin earn a
baseball doubleheader split against Lakeland College during rainy
and windy conditions at Kapco Park on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons
fell in the Northern Athletics Conference opener 10-2 before
earning a 2-0 shutout win in the nightcap.
Baglow (sophomore, Walled Lake, Mich.) scattered six hits in 8.1
innings of work - his longest effort of the season. He pitched two
1-2-3 innings and allowed no more than two base runners in any
frame. Freshman Dylan Hinckley (West Bend, Wis.) earned his third
save of the season by recording the final two outs.
LC pounded 16 hits in the opener and plated four runs in the fifth
frame to take control.
Senior Austin Sarauer (Campbellsport, Wis.) led CUW with five hits
and two RBI in the two game set. Senior David Enters (Milwaukee,
Wis.) added four bases hits and sophomore Harry Steldt (West Bend,
Wis.) finished with three hits.
Ryan Boettcher and Jess Nickel each recorded four base hits and two
RBI for LC (16-11, 6-6 NAC). Garrett Morris added three bases hits
and scored twice.
Game One Recap:
LC roughed up CUW starter Andrew Mueller (2-2) for seven earned
runs on ten hits over the first five innings. On the other hand,
Mike Ruzek was cruising on the hill for the Muskies, as he earned
the win after throwing 8.0 innings of two-run ball.
The Muskies plated three runs to open the game and the Falcons
(11-12, 8-4 NAC) answered with a pair of their own, but that is all
the scoring they could manufacture.
Sophomore Mueller (Horicon, Wis.) was tagged with the loss.
Game Two Recap:
LC could not find a way to connect with Baglow's pitches, as the
right-hander earned his first shutout of the year. He induced the
Muskies into 10 groundouts and five flyouts.
Andy Chitwood threw eight strong innings, allowing eight hits while
striking out four, for the Muskies.
Sarauer, Steldt and freshman Matt Schroeder (Mequon, Wis.) combined
for six of the Falcons eight hits in the contest.
Schroeder led off the bottom of the third frame with a triple off
the left-center field fence. Two batters later, Sarauer lined an
RBI single to center field to give CUW a 1-0 lead.
In the seventh, sophomore Mathew Scasny (Pewaukee, Wis.) ripped a
single up the middle before advancing to second on senior Nick
Doedens (Milwaukee, Wis.) sacrifice bunt. Enters then lined a 1-2
pitch to center field which drove home Scasny and put CUW in front
2-0.
