MEQUON, Wis. - Rockford College pounded 31 hits in a
doubleheader sweep against Concordia University Wisconsin on
Saturday afternoon during Northern Athletics Conference play at
Kapco Park. The Falcons fell 10-0 in the opener and 11-6 in the
nightcap.
The Regents' Jake Nicholson took a no-hitter into the
ninth frame during the opening contest before Daniel Mueller lined
a two out single to center field for the Falcons only hit of the
loss. RC then built another 10-0 cushion after scoring in each of
the first five innings of the nightcap and cruised to the NAC
sweep.
CUW (6-10, 3-3 NAC) had trouble all day against RC
pitchers, finishing with just 12 hits on the day. Most of those
came in the second game after the contest was already decided. The
Falcons used 13 pitchers and 20 positional players during the
doubleheader.
Mueller (junior, West Bend, Wis.) led CUW with three
hits, while senior Austin Sarauer (Campbellsport, Wis.) drove in a
pair of runs and scored twice. Senior Ryan Baglow (Walled Lake,
Mich.) struck out three batters in 4.0 innings of work on the
mound.
Kevin Miller led RC (8-12, 5-2 NAC) with a 6-for-10
performance, to go along with a team-high-tying four RBI and two
runs scored. Jimmy Dercks records five hits and recorded seven
total bases, while Ryne Billesbach finished with four hits, three
RBI and two runs scored.
During the opener, CUW went down in order in six
separate innings during the near no-hitter.
The Falcons rallied in the closing contest with four
runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but their deficit was too
much to overcome.
CUW returns to action on Monday at MSOE in a
doubleheader. The NAC series begins at 12 p.m.
