MEQUON, Wis. -
Concordia University Wisconsin took advantage of five errors by St. Norbert College, including three in the sixth inning, to earn a 3-2 baseball non-conference victory on a cold and windy Thursday evening at Kapco Park.

The Falcons plated a pair of runs on two outs, including the game winner, after the Green Knights committed a pair of throwing miscues and a fielding error in the sixth inning. CUW recorded two doubles, with a two-bagger hit by senior Nick Doedens (Germantown, Wis.) during the go-ahead frame.

CUW's pitching got stronger as the game went on, allowing six hits in the win and just one over the final three innings. Starter Andrew Mueller (sophomore, Horicon, Wis.) allowed three hits before he gave way to the bullpen in the fifth.

From then on, the freshmen trio of Joel Sharon ( Glendale, Wis.), Tyler Adams (Jackson, Wis.) and Dylan Hinckley (West Bend, Wis.) allowed three hits and five base runners. Sharon earned his first career victory after tossing two innings. Hinckley picked up his first career save after retiring the side on 11 pitches, including two strikeouts.

CUW (6-8) was led by seven batters who each recorded a hit and three different players scored. Senior Austin Sarauer (Campbellsport, Wis.) hit the team's only RBI.

Travis Mason finished with two of SNC's (6-7) six hits on the day, while Matt Hannon recorded the team's only RBI. The Green Knights finished 4-of-5 in stolen base attempts with Mason stealing two bases.

The victory snapped the Falcons' eight-game losing streak against the Green Knights dating back to the 2005 season.

Each team traded a run in the fifth to open the scoring. Nick Pierre reached base on a four-pitch walk and then stole second for SNC. Jordan Powers followed with a bunt single prior to Pierre scoring on a double-play groundout.

After a fielding error and a sacrifice bunt by senior David Enters (Milwaukee, Wis.), Sarauer drove home freshman Matt Schroeder (Mequon, Wis.) on a single to center field for the Falcons.

Doedens laced a double down the right field line in the sixth after two CUW outs was recorded. He then scored after the Green Knights third baseman committed a fielding error and then committed another error on a bad throw home. The Falcons led 3-1 after six frames.

Chris Hillesheim reached on a throwing error and advanced to second on Power's sacrifice bunt. Hannon then drove Hillesheim home for the game's final run in the top of the seventh.

CUW returns home on Saturday against Rockford College in a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader at Kapco Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
