Baseball drops non-conference game at Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. – Elmhurst College scored five runs in the opening frame and all of its runs during the first three innings en route to an 11-3 non-conference baseball victory over Concordia University Wisconsin on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bluejays had nine batters reach base over the first and second innings before Marc Shield hit a three-run home run over the right-field fence. In all, EC (20-6) recorded 16 total bases and hit three doubles in the win.

CUW (11-22) dropped its 10th-straight game and finished with just three hits during the first five innings.

Joe Kennedy and Dave Wolak each crossed the plate three times and four different players had two base hits for the Bluejays. Brian Marquis tossed seven strong innings of three-run ball to pick up the victory.

Senior Austin Sarauer (Campbellsport, Wis.) led CUW with two runs scored, while junior Daniel Mueller (West Bend, Wis.) and sophomore Mathew Scasny (Pewaukee, Wis.) each had two hits. Senior Ryan Baglow (Walled Lake, Mich.) was roughed up in 0.2 innings on the mound for five hits and five earned runs. The Falcons used six pitchers in the loss.

CUW returns to the diamond on Wednesday at 6:10 p.m. when it hosts Carthage College in a non-conference contest at Kapco Park.
