Acrobatic & Tumbling posts strong 2019 season

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW acrobatics & tumbling team continued to grow and push forward in 2019. The Falcons finished the year with a 4-4 record, finishing with a .500 winning percentage or higher for the second time in program history.

The season was highlighted with all three pyramid heats qualifying for the NCATA Championships. In the open pyramid, CUW finished in fourth place, the highest in program history. The Blue and White finished in sixth place in the synchronized pyramid and in seventh place in the inversion pyramid.

The highest Falcon finish at the championships came in the open pyramid in fourth place. The team of freshman Abby Pierce (Antioch, Ill.), senior Jordan Ireland (Bennett, Colo.), senior Jofflyn Zaremba (Winneconne, Wis.), senior Anna Smith (Marengo, Ill.) and sophomore Lindsey Leonhard (Sheboygan, Wis.) finished the heat with a score of 9.775 points. The fourth-place finish and the 9.775 score are the highest in CUW program history at the NCATA Championship.

In the synchronized pyramid, the Falcons finished with a sixth-place finish. The team of Abby Pierce, Jordan Ireland, freshman Samantha Hoolerbek (Belvidere, Ill.), Anna Smith, senior Tristiana March (Janesville, Wis.), senior Alyssa Ellis (Rhinelander, Wis.), freshman Kara Skevis (Lockport, Ill.), Jofflyn Zaremba, senior Kyra Kidd (West Bend, Wis.) and Lindsey Leonhard recorded a score of 9.125 points.

The team of Alyssa Ellis, Anna Smith, sophomore Katelyn Mirasola (Sussex, Wis.), Jofflyn Zaremba, Jordan Ireland and Lindsey Leonhard placed seventh in the inversion pyramid at 9.325 points.

In the final meet of the season at Adrian, the Falcons posted a perfect 10.0 score in the open pyramid. The team of Abby Pierce, Jordan Ireland, Jofflyn Zaremba, Anna Smith and Lindsey Leonhard are the first team in program history to record a perfect 10 in the open pyramid.

In its first year, CUW landed five selections to the NCATA Academic Honor Roll. Lydia Aukamp, Alyssa Ellis, Jordan Ireland, Tristiana March and Katelyn Mirasola claimed this honor.

The Falcons posted school record scores in acro (27.75) and pyramid (29.80) at Adrian. Establishing new school records in acro heat two and two and pyramids heats one and three. A new tumbling quad record was also established against Arizona Christian at 7.750 points. At Fairmont State, CUW smashed the toss event record at 27.75 points. 

CUW looks to build off a solid 2019 season for a strong 2020 season.
