Acrobatics and Tumbling breaks school records at Adrian
ADRIAN, Mich. – The Falcons ended the regular season with a bang on Sunday with a 244.535 to 241.090 victory over Adrian on Sunday afternoon. The victory propels CUW to a final record of 4-4 in 2019. CUW posted season-high scores in 13 heats on Sunday and finished the day with a season-best score.
"The team really pulled it together today at Adrian," said head coach Sarah Koenig. "These past few weeks have been pulling everything apart and talking about the little things. They took that to heart and executed. We are awaiting the official announcement for the event finalists, but are feeling very confident we will have the opportunity to return to compete in the national pyramid event finals."
The Blue and White held a .05-point lead after the compulsory event at 31.75 points.
The Falcons recorded two scores over nine points with the pyramid heat at a season-high 9.60 points and the toss heat at a season-high 9.60 points.
CUW extended the lead with a score of 27.75 points in the acro event, where the Falcons posted season-high scores in all three heats. In heat one, the team of freshman Abby Pierce (Antioch, Ill.), senior Kyra Kidd (West Bend, Wis.), senior Jofflyn Zaremba (Winneconne, Wis.) and senior Anna Smith (Marengo, Ill.) notched a score of 9.35. Senior Alyssa Ellis (Rhinelander, Wis.), freshman Samantha Hoolerbek (Belvidere, Ill.), freshman Kara Skevis (Lockport, Ill.) and sophomore Katelyn Mirasola (Sussex, Wis.) then posted a school-record score of 9.60 in heat two. The 27.75 points ties the school record for the heat.
The pyramid event saw the Falcons score the first perfect 10 score in the open pyramid. The Falcons saw an overall score of 29.80, the best of the year. All three heats saw season-best scores. The 29.80 shattered the school record for points in the event.
The team of Abby Pierce, senior Jordan Ireland (Bennett, Colo.), Jofflyn Zaremba, Anna Smith and sophomore Lindsey Leonhard (Sheboygan, Wis.) are the first team in program history to record a perfect 10 in the open pyramid.
CUW closed the toss heat with a score of 25.75 to get more separation from the Bulldogs. In heat one; CUW notched a season-high score at 8.85. They also posted the highest score of the season in heat three at 8.55.
In the tumbling event, the Blue and White recorded a score of 43.425 points. Jordan Ireland posted the highest mark in the open pass at 8.275 points.
The Falcons closed the day with a score of 86.06 in the team event. The best mark of the season for CUW.
Members of the CUW acrobatics and tumbling team will have to wait and see if individuals will qualify for the NCATA National Championships.
