Falcon weekend preview: Men’s Tennis, Men’s Lacrosse ready for action

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin's men's tennis and men's lacrosse teams are ready for action this weekend, which will be highlighted by a home tennis match on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Paley Tennis Center.

The men's tennis team will host the University of Dubuque in its fourth home match in the last month. UD bring a 3-7 overall record and has split its last four matches. Nikolay Gospodinov leads the Spartans with a 9-4 record, including a 5-0 mark at No. 3 singles. Junior Russell Johnson (Monticello, Wis.) leads CUW with a 4-2 record, which includes victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

Men's lacrosse continues its difficult seven-game road swing to start the season when it travels to Albion College and Alma College on Saturday and Sunday. The Britons host the Falcons at 12 p.m. (CDT) on Saturday, while the Scots will have the field ready on Sunday at 12 p.m. (CDT) for the non-conference matchup.

Junior Sam Wladyka (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and sophomore Derek Brueske (Hopkins, Minn.) pace the Falcons roster with eight points apiece. Wladyka has found the back of the net seven times so far in three games.

CUW holds a 2-0 record against the two programs its plays this weekend. Albion enters with a 3-2 record and will complete a three-game homestand on Saturday and has fallen twice in the history of the three meetings between the two squads. Dan Genord has 15 goals and Joel Hedemark has 16 assists, both team-best for the Britons.

Alma snapped a two-game skid with a 7-5 victory on Mar. 3 and dropped its only contest against the Falcons, 21-3, last season on Apr. 28. Marshall Argenta leads seven Scots with four goals.
