Schauer promoted to Director of Athletic Communications

MEQUON, Wis. – Steven Schauer has been named Director of Athletic Communications for Concordia University Wisconsin's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, which was announced by Director of Athletics Dr. Rob Barnhill. He takes over for Rick Riehl who joined the Advancement Department at CUW.

Schauer will oversee the Athletic Communications Department (previously called Sports Information) after a year-and-a-half as the assistant director. He will handle the day-to-day athletic communication efforts of CUW's 23 NCAA Division III athletic programs, including maintenance of cuwfalcons.com, official statistics and multimedia efforts, among other duties.

He joined the CUW staff on July 18, 2011, after serving as the public relations intern for the Green Bay Packers during their Super Bowl XLV Championship season.

A native of New Franken, Wis., Schauer graduated from CUW in 2008 with a Bachelor's Degree in exercise physiology. During his undergraduate years, he worked with the Sports Information Department in variety of facets.

After graduating from CUW, he served two years as the Athletic Media Relations Graduate Assistant at the University of Louisiana at Monroe in Monroe, La.. While at ULM, he also earned his Master's degree in communications. During his two years, Schauer worked closely with the Warhawks NCAA Division I football, volleyball, women's basketball, and softball programs handling media relations needs.

Following his stint at ULM, he worked for the Packers during their NFL Championship winning season as the Public Relations Intern handling a variety of duties. His primary responsibilities included the setup and execution of player interviews with local, regional, and national media outlets, along with the writing for and editing of numerous team publications.

Also, during the summers of 2007 and 2009 he worked as the official statistician and Media Relations Intern for the Green Bay Bullfrogs, premier member of the Northwoods League. During his time in the Bullfrogs media relations office, he redesigned the team's website and completed an extensive update of the team's statistical records.

Schauer is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He is the son of Philip and Laurie Schauer and has one younger sister, Stephanie.
