Kurek honored with Female Career Achievement Award

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin’s Athletic Department has announced that Allison Kurek of the Women’s Lacrosse program has been named the 2017-18 Female Career Achievement Award winner.

The CUW Athletic Department released its top stories of the year over the past few weeks and this week will announce its four major award winners from the 2017-18 season. On Monday, the Falcons announced the Female Athlete of the Year (Kaily (Moegenburg) Erdman) and Tuesday the Male Athlete of the Year (Braydon Barker). Thursday the Male Career Achievement Award winner will be announced.

Kurek dominated on the women’s lacrosse field for four years and it got to a point that her effort and statistics became expected game after game. She was a gifted athlete and her skills helped the Falcons win three Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference regular-season titles and two MWLC Tournament Championships, along with two trips to the NCAA Tournament.

When looking through the record books, Kurek’s name is everywhere, as she owns all but two major statistical records for an offensive player. The midfielder ended with 253 points, 195 goals, 302 ground balls, 338 draw controls, 224 caused turnovers and 10 game-winning goals.

To put it in perspective how eye-popping her career statistics are, understand that her 224 caused turnovers are three times as many as second place (97). More so, Kurek picked up 302 ground balls and second place is 194, while she won 338 draw controls and the next best was 194. Each of those second-place records is held by Hayley Peppers, who in her own right was an outstanding player.

The Chicago, Illinois, native was a three-time Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region honoree and a four-time All-MWLC First Team recipient. Her sophomore year ended with being named MWLC Defensive and Offensive Player of the Year – the only player to ever accomplish the feat in a season.
