2016-17 Statistics of the Year

Baseball (28) – For the second time in the past three seasons, the Falcons set a program wins record on the ball diamond. CUW won 28 games this spring, including going 15-5 in the NACC. The Falcons also joined the regional rankings, being polled as high as fifth in the Midwest.

Men's Basketball (1,541) – Eric Kittel concluded his impressive four-year career in a Falcons uniform by setting several school records. The one that stands out the most is his 1,541 career points. He set the new scoring mark in a NACC Tournament win over Aurora. Kittel averaged a career-best 17.1 points per game during his senior season.

Women's Basketball (57.1) –Taylor DeLong finished her career with her best season yet, helping lead the Falcons to another NACC Regular Season Title. DeLong shot 57.1 percent from the floor, setting a new school record in the process. Her shooting percentage ranked 18th nationally. DeLong also finished her career tied for the best career shooting percentage in Falcons history (54.3 percent).

Men's Cross Country (3.35) – The Falcons reached USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for the 2016 season. In order to land on the All-Academic list, the team's cumulative GPA must be at least 3.10. The Falcons cleared that easily, posting a 3.35 GPA.

Women's Cross Country (22:28) – Nora Imperl reached All-Region status this season after posting her career best performance at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regionals. Imperl ran a 22:28, finishing 18th in the 265-competitor field. Her time ranks third best in school history and helped the Falcons to a 14th-place finish as a team in the regional meet.

Dance (139.8) – The Falcons dance team scored 139.8 points at the conference competition in February. CUW placed second overall in the event. The Falcons won the jazz event en route to the second-place finish.

Field Hockey (806) – The CUW Field Hockey team played only one home game in its inaugural season but it was certainly one to remember. The Falcons took on Lindenwood-Belleville in front of 806 spectators, the second-largest crowd in Division III Field Hockey history. CUW won the game 6-0, which included a hat trick from senior Brandi Muller.

Football (551) – Aaron Nixon threw the ball all over the gridiron in an October 8 contest against Benedictine. Nixon set the Falcons and NACC single game record with 551 passing yards. For the day, the junior gunslinger was 41-of-65 with five touchdown passes. He also ran for two touchdowns for CUW in the shootout.

Men's Golf (298) – On October 3 the Falcons secured their best team round in school history by firing a 298 on day two of the MSOE Fall Invitational. Every player on the Falcons shot an 80 or better on the record-setting day, highlighted by Bill Jones, who posted an even-par 72. Coming into the season, CUW had never had a team score under 300, something the Falcons accomplished twice in 2016-17 (also shot a 299 at Carthage).

Women's Golf (9) – Maddy Zastrow proved to be the Falcons top golfer this season and it showed at the NACC Championship. Zastrow fired a three-day total of 273 (95-87-91) to finish ninth at the championship, earning All-NACC honors.

Men's Hockey (1) – While the program record 13 wins was certainly a good number for the Falcons, they'll also remember the number one from the 2016-17. That number represents CUW sweeping the No. 1 ranked St. Norbert Green Knights over a January 27-28 weekend series. The Falcons won 4-2 at St. Norbert Friday before shutting out the Green Knights, 3-0, at home on Saturday to conclude the sweep.

Women's Hockey (90) – Veronika Metanova became the Falcons all-time points leader, reaching 90 after an impressive four years on the ice. She set the points mark on February 3 in a 6-1 win over Marian. Metanova had her best season of her career in 2016-17, recording 31 points with 12 goals and 19 assists.

Men's Lacrosse (6.63) – The Falcons were difficult to score on in 2017 and goalie Garrett Wohlford was a big reason for that. Wohlford posted a 6.63 goals against average, ranking fourth nationally. He also posted a .609 save percentage, which was sixth nationally. Both numbers led the MLC.

Women's Lacrosse (28) – The Falcons saw an impressive streak come to an end during the 2017 season. CUW started the MWLC season with a 10-0 record, running its conference winning streak to 28 games. Thanks to the winning streak, CUW was able to go 10-1 in conference play this season and win a third consecutive MWLC Championship.

Men's Soccer (25) – After a 4-0 start to the 2016 season, the Falcons reached new heights. On September 13, the Falcons were ranked 25th nationally, the first time CUW was in the top 25 in program history.

Women's Soccer (50) – During the final match of the season, Brittany Klumpp became the fourth player since 2003 to join the 50-goal club for the Falcons. Klumpp scored two goals in the finale at Lakeland, giving her 51 tallies during her career. She joined Lauren Straehler, Carley Pfannerstill, and Becky Ott as 50-goal scorers since the 2003 season.

Softball (26) – Another career record to fall during the 2016-17 athletics season came on the softball field. Carly Sobrilsky became the program's all-time leader in home runs, belting 26 in her career. She hit seven during the 2017 campaign, helping the Falcons to a runner-up finish in the NACC.

Men's Tennis (4) – For the fourth time since the NACC started hosting a Men's Tennis Tournament, beginning during the 2010-11 athletic year, the Falcons have captured the tournament title. This season, CUW won both NACC Tournament matches by 5-0 scores, advancing to the NCAA Tournament in the process.

Women's Tennis (76-5) – The Falcons won their second straight NACC Regular Season Championship in the fall and did so in dominating fashion this season. CUW posted a 76-5 record in conference matches and ran its NACC match winning streak to 19. The Falcons went undefeated in conference matches during the regular season at No. 3, 4, 5, and 6 singles and also at No. 2 and 3 doubles.

Men's Track & Field (62.31) – On May 25, Gavin Falotico delivered his best performance of his career in the javelin throw at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships. He landed a throw of 62.31 meters, good for a seventh-place finish and All-American honors.

Women's Track & Field (9) – During the 2017 Track & Field season, the Falcons women's team set nine school records. Six of those marks fell during the outdoor season and three came during the indoor portion of the schedule. Irene Bolis, Moira Kilgas, Cassandra Sprotte (twice), Colleen Sauvey, and Sam Meixell all set school records, as did a trio of relay teams.

Triathlon (1st) – The Falcons had a successful first season in the fall. CUW competed in five meets, including the Collegiate Triathlon National Championship. The season included Meghan Klement winning her age division at the TriRock Triathlon on September 24th.

Volleyball (0) – Zero equals the number of losses CUW had against NACC competition on the volleyball court in 2016. The Falcons rolled through the regular season, netting an 11-0 record to earn the No. 1 seed in the league tournament. CUW went on to defeat Edgewood and Aurora to the in the NACC Tournament to advance NCAA Division III Tournament.

Wrestling (2) – The Falcons had two wrestlers advance to the NCAA Championship during the winter. Mason Baumgartner and Mason Mergener each qualified for the event in their respective weight classes, concluding impressive careers at the NCAA Championship.
