Metanova honored with Female Career Achievement Award

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Athletic Department has announced that Veronika Metanova, a four-year standout in both women's hockey and lacrosse, has been honored with the 2016-17 Female Career Achievement Award.

The CUW Athletic Department released its top stories of the season over the past few weeks and this week will announce its four major award winners from the 2016-17 season. On Monday, the Falcons announced the Female Athlete of the Year (Nora Imperl) and Tuesday named the Male Athlete of the Year (Gavin Falotico). Thursday, the Male Career Achievement Award winner will be announced.

Metanova (Palatine, Ill.) leaves CUW as one of the greatest women's hockey players in program history, as well as the top goalie in women's lacrosse history. She holds several career marks in both sports.

In the winter, Metanova laced up the skates for the Falcons Women's Hockey program. She leaves the Falcons as the program's all-time leading scorer, recording 90 points over four seasons. She also holds the career assists mark with 55. The forward finished her career with 35 goals, which ranked second in CUW history.

This past season was Metanova's best as she scored 31 points, the second most productive season in Falcons history. She scored 20-plus points in three of her four seasons and helped lead her team to an appearance in the Slaats Cup Final her sophomore season. In addition, Metanova was named to the NCHA All-Freshmen Team during the 2013-14 season.

Metanova went from scoring goals in the winter to stopping goals from being scored in the spring as she was the goalie for the Falcons Field Hockey program. There, she helped lead CUW to three straight MWLC regular season championships, as well as two tournament titles and two appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

Metanova, the 2017 MWLC Defensive Player of the Year, was a four-time all-conference selection. She landed Second Team honors her first three seasons before being the Player of the Year and a First Team selection this past spring.

The goaltender leaves the Falcons program as the leader in wins, save percentage, saves, and goals against average, the four main stats for goalies. She won 39 games over four seasons, including a program-best 15 in 2016. Metanova finished her impressive run with the Falcons with 517 saves and a 50.1 save percentage.

Metanova also holds season records in wins, save percentage and saves. She finished her career with six games with 15 or more saves, the most of any player in Falcons history. Metanova also played golf for the Falcons her freshman year, before focusing on hockey and lacrosse over the final three.

Veronika Metanova had an impressive career for the Falcons across two sports. From being the most productive point scorer in women's hockey history to being the most productive goalie in women's lacrosse, Metanova has no doubt earned the 2016-17 Female Career Achievement Award.
