Imperl named 2016-17 Female Athlete of the Year

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Athletic Department has announced that Nora Imperl of both Women's Cross Country and Women's Track & Field, has been named the 2016-17 Female Athlete of the Year.

The CUW Athletic Department released its top stories of the season over the past few weeks and this week will announce its four major award winners from the 2016-17 season. On Tuesday, the Falcons will announce the Male Athlete of the Year, while on Wednesday and Thursday the two Career Achievement Award recipients will be announced.

Imperl (Greenfield, Wis.) was a top runner for both the cross country and track & field programs this season. It started in the fall, where Imperl was the Falcons top runner from start to finish and landed All-Conference honors for the third straight season. She finished sixth at the NACC Championships to earn to the All-NACC accolades.

Imperl then posted her career-best performance at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regionals, running a 22:27, which was good for an 18th-place finish. Her finish landed USTFCCCA All-Region honors.

The distance runner carried the momentum over into the track season where she helped lead the Falcons to a pair of runner-up finishes at the indoor and outdoor championships, respectively. At both meets, Imperl was named the Track Athlete of the Meet, marking second and third such awards of her career.

At the indoor championships, Imperl scored 22 points across three events. She won the 3,000-meter run and added a second-place finish in the 5,000, along with a fifth-place finish in the mile.

She followed that performance with another Track Athlete of the Meet at the outdoor championships. Over two days, she scored 27 points across four events. The junior posted a win in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, along with third-place finishes in the 800 and 1,500-meter runs. She rounded out the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 5,000.

After an All-Region run in the fall, followed by being the top track athlete in the conference in the winter and spring, Nora Imperl is the Falcons 2016-17 Female Athlete of the Year,
