Larson named Female Athlete of the Year

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Athletic Department has announced that Nicole Larson of Women's Track & Field has been named the 2015-16 CUW Female Athlete of the Year.

CUWFalcons.com is in the process of releasing the department's four major awards for the 2015-16 season. Over the last two weeks, the two Career Achievement Award Winners were announced, Carley Pfannerstill (Women's Soccer) and Diego Campos (Men's Soccer). In two weeks, the final major award will be announced, the 2015-16 Male Athlete of the Year.

Larson (Milwaukee, Wis.) had a standout season for the Falcons, earning All-American accolades in both Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field. The junior transfer from Minnesota State Mankato competed in the pole vault for the Falcons and rewrote both the school and conference record books in the process.

During the indoor season, Larson began her career by setting both the conference and school record in the pole vault, a mark she would go on to break several times throughout the course of the season. She won the pole vault at eight of nine meets and finished fifth in at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, becoming an All-American in the process.

Larson's best height during the indoor season was 3.90 meters, set on a couple of different occasions. The first time she reached that height was at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenge on February 20.

Larson continued to impress during the outdoor season, winning four of six times in the pole vault. She placed seventh at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, again gaining All-American accolades.

Larson twice cleared 3.85 meters outside, holding the NACC and school record with that height. One of those times came at the national meet, while the other was at the St. Norbert Invite, where Larson won the event.

Nicole Larson had an outstanding first season in a Falcons uniform. Winning her event 12 out of 15 times and landing two All-American accolades are big reasons why she is the 2015-16 CUW Female Athlete of the Year.
