Falcon weekend preview, eight teams begin competition

MEQUON, Wis. – Eight Concordia University Wisconsin teams will begin competition this weekend as the 2013 fall season gets underway.

Highlighting the weekend's action will be the volleyball team as they host the Concordia Invitational Tournament at the R. John Buuck Field House Saturday. The Falcons will play host to Concordia University Ann Arbor at 10 a.m. before taking on Concordia University Chicago at 3:00 p.m. CUC and CUAA will face off at 12:30 p.m.

Last season the Falcons struggled in the season-opening CIT, which was hosted by Concordia University Texas, posting a 0-3 record. This season's tournament will feature live audio, stats and video courtesy of CUWFalcons.com.

The defending NACC Championship women's golf team kicks off play this weekend at the competitive Carthage College Tournament on the Border. The two-day event will take place Friday and Saturday at Bristol Oaks Golf Course in Kenosha, Wis. CUW returns a bevy of talent from a squad that won the conference tournament by 104 strokes last season.

The men's golf team will also be on the links this weekend, competing in the Culver's Edgewood College Fall Classic. Last season CUW also opened play at Glen Erin Golf Course and shot a two-day score of 681.

Women's Soccer will begin their challenging non-conference schedule with a trip to UW-Stout Friday evening. The Falcons and Blue Devils are set to kick their season off at 7 p.m. CUW is coming off a 15-4-1 season, tying a program mark for wins in a season. The Falcons return several talented players on offense, but also lost several talented seniors from last season's squad. Men's Soccer will head to Minnesota for a pair of non-conference games. The Falcons will battle Saint John's University in their season opener Saturday at 1 p.m. before taking on the University of Minnesota Morris Sunday at 3 p.m. CUW made an appearance in the NACC Championship match last season and has won 10 or more games in each of the past 19 seasons. Also in action this weekend will be the Women's Tennis team as they open their schedule with a pair of NACC matches Saturday. The Falcons, who were slotted for a third-place finish in the league this season, host Aurora University at 10 a.m. and Benedictine University at 2:00 p.m. Both matches will be at the North Shore Country Club.

Men's and Women's Cross Country will host Maranatha Baptist Bible College in a dual meet Saturday at 4 p.m. Both teams are looking to get back to the top of the conference this season after finishing fourth and third, respectively, in 2012.
